Frequently asked questions

Q: Why the name, Treeclimber?

A: A tree climber is someone who is adventurous, playful, and resourceful. Our production is all about taking risks, going out on a limb, and getting rewarded with a new perspective.

Q: How can you film if you can't show the girls' face?

A: We eventually WILL show the girls' faces. Right now, the girls are minors and have pending court cases. After they turn 18 and their cases are resolved, and when they feel comfortable with sharing their stories, we will release the film with their faces fully visible.

Q: What is participatory video?

A: Participatory video is a method of training video production in an experiential, collaborative setting. Rather than traditional instruction, small groups are encouraged to experiment, explore, learn on their own and teach each other. InsightShare uses this method with traditionally marginalized groups --small scale farmers in the developing world, for example, to make presentations to policymakers, share knowledge, monitoring and evaluation, and to build and strengthen community. Check out the InsightShare website for a lot better explanation that I have here.

Q: How are you funding this documentary?

A: Fundraising is going to be an ongoing process throughout production, editing, and distribution. We have applied for several grants and will continue sending out proposals, but we will also need the support of people who care about this project and the issue of sex trafficking. We will be holding several crowd funding campaigns, the first to be launched very soon.
